Zimbabwe struck back with two key wickets in the last session of the day in the 2nd Test vs Bangladesh. The day ended with the visitors 300/6, which gives Zimbabwe the upper hand.
Brendon Taylor won the toss and elected to field on the back of a dominant victory in the first Test. Bangladesh did not help themselves with a frenetic start to the day, with Jaharul Islam particularly playing rash shots. He was the first casualty of the day, trying to hit Keegan Meth over cover but only finding Malcolm Waller. Mohammed Ashraful struggled for his innings of 4 before trying to pull a bouncer that ended up in the hands of gully. However Tamim Iqbal soldiered on and was unbeaten on 40 at lunch with the team being on 89/2.
Iqbal resumed lunch and spent several minutes on 49. Eventually, he hastily decided to pinch a single but was runout by Shingi Masakadza. Mominul Haque was out 5 overs later, spooning a catch to cover. This brought in captain Mushfiqur Rahim, and along with Shakib Al-Hasan put on 123 in 40 overs to steady the ship. Rahim was the more circumspect of the two, with Shakib hitting 8 fours in his 81. Shakib was also guilty of throwing his wicket away, trying to charge down the wicket but only edging Chigumbura behind. Nasir Hossain played in his typically belligerent way which boosted the score, but unfortunately his captain was out five overs before the end of play with Kyle Jarvis getting the new ball to nip in and trap him lbw.
Prior to the last two wickets, Bangladesh will have been happy with their day so far. However these two wickets have shifted the momentum to the Zimbabweans. The nature of the shots were very irresponsible from Bangladesh as well which the management will not be happy with. The only hope will be Nasir Hossain who plays attackingly. If he gets going, it will be very hard to stop him.
