Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister and chief of Awami League  Sheikh Hasina Wajed has returned home from the US.  Her return is due to the coming parliamentary elections on December 18, 2008.

Former Bangladeshi premier Sheikh Hasina Wajed has returned to the south Asian country after spending months abroad for medical treatment.  Police said at least 100,000 supporters had gathered at Dhaka airport Thursday to welcome her.   The chief of former ruling Awami League for the past 27 years, arrested on graft charges last year, left for the United States on parole in July 12 to receive medical attention for her ears and eyes. Wajed is expected to lead her party in the upcoming parliamentary elections due on December 18.   Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed, who took office as head of the Caretaker Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on January 2007, has overseen a massive crack down on corruption ever since.  Some 200 former government ministers, including another two ex-prime ministers have faced corruption charges ranging from fraud and money laundering to extortion.
