August 2008 -- the only remnants of the Bank of America in Isla Vista is this ATM center, just a few meters down the road where the original bank once stood. The original Bank of America was burned down by rioting students in February 1970, after which the bank was rebuilt almost immediately. In April 1970, an attempt was made to burn down the re-built bank, and a student, Keven Moran, who tried to extinguish the fire, was fatally shot by a sheriff in the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department. There is no longer a Bank of America in Isla Vista.

I lived in Isla Vista from April 1974 to August 1974, and there was a fulll BAnk of America on the same spot where the burned one had stood - at that time.  I was then there in 1975 and the bank was still there also then.   I went back arouind 1989 and don't remember if it was there or not. Isla Vista is a real hippie/surfer sort of student "slum" area.  It's actually not a slum, but rather a tightly packed apartment/home area directly on the Pacific Ocean, or the Strait of Fred, or whatever. they call that.
