Maulvi Omer, spokesman for the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Sunday claimed responsibility for the attacks on Nato supplies and termed it a reaction to the US drone attacks inside Pakistani territory.
Talking to reporters by phone from an undisclosed location, Maulvi Omer termed the recent series of attacks on terminals, used for the supplies to Nato and US forces in Afghanistan, "a response to the Americans for their drone strikes inside Pakistan." He said the TTP would expedite the attacks if the US strikes continued.
Omer also threatened to carry out such attacks on Nato supply vehicles elsewhere in the country if the intensity of the attacks inside Afghanistan was not reduced. "We would try to cut off every supply through Pakistan if the situation remains the same," Omer warned, saying they were ready to hold talks if the government showed flexibility.
On the other hand, the security forces Sunday continued targeting suspected hideouts of militants in parts of Mamond and Nawagai tehsils of the restive Bajaur Agency. There were no reports regarding any fatalities and causalities being suffered by militants in these attacks.
However, in anticipation of a major offensive against the militants in Mamond Tehsil, people have now started shifting to safer areas. The political administration Sunday directed the people to avoid unnecessary movement after 5 p.m. local time.
