Barack Obama accepts presidential nomination of Democratic party

DENVER -- Voters must choose between continuing Republican failures or a future that restores hope in the success of the American dream, Barack Obama argued tonight as he accepted the Democratic presidential nomination.
Obama, 47, stood on an elaborate podium in the Denver Broncos football stadium and made the points that won him the nomination during a brutal primary season. The Illinois senator, the first African American to be the presidential nominee of a major party, called for a new politics based on traditional American values such as hard work.
Obama gave the party faithful something to take home as they began what is expected to be a fierce general election campaign. He attacked his Republican rival, John McCain, for being no more than a continuation of the failures of the Bush administration.
"America, we are better than these last eight years," he said. "We are a better country than this."
It was a message that most here have heard before, but it was geared to the Republicans and independents watching on broadcast and cable networks and over the Internet. Those are the voters who likely will hold the balance in the November election.

lgal3824, I like this story. It's good stuff. And Obama will be a great president. He really hit it out of the park tonight. One can only hope that the Republicans have not succeeded in dumbing Americans down enough that they'll be so complacent as to not vote for change. That IS and always HAS BEEN the Republican strategy, dumbing down America.....well NOT this time!

And Republicans have "dumbed down" America? Could you please give use a reference for that, please?
Here's one reference: " Republicans are more likely to vote but Democrats are more likely to join organized protests and boycotts. That said, the surveys I found show that Republicans generally have achieved more in terms of education, income, job responsibilities, civic involvement, marital contentment, and personal happiness.
.......Republicans are more likely to contribute their time and money to charities, and this is true even when religious giving is taken out of the equation. Also, Republicans give much larger amounts relative to their incomes. I estimate that charities would receive an additional $55 billion per year if Democrats gave as much as Republicans in proportion to their incomes. " ~ source
And here's the actual break-down of educational levels for Republicans, Democrats and Independents as part of the identifiable criteria in self-evaulation of happiness and mental health: Gallup.

A quick review of Fried's book is here. A surprising finding: Democrats tend to have less trust in other people, while talking endlessly about people taking care of people and "power to the people"!
