Barack Obama talk in livingston amongst 8th grade students!

Recently there has been a great amount of talk about Barack Obama, but of coarse, that is to be expected. There have been minor arguements amongst my friends about how unhappy they are with Obama winning the election, how they can't trust a Muslim, how the new first lady's butt is too big.  Meanwhile, I am in the back ground massaging my temples and trying my best not to explode in a raging fit at my group of friends. I finally understand what the mysterious "they" mean when they say that there are two things you mustn't talk about with others, religion and politics. These are EIGHTH GRADERS. Eighth graders are getting into full flegged and minor arguments because of  something they have never talked or cared about before. Until recently, I only heard fights about how talented the Jonas Brothers REALLY are. Now, all I hear is whether or not we are going to survive through the next four years, or eight if he runs again and wins.

I don't understand how these people can go from goo-goo eyed teens to  "supposedly" fully educated politicians in just twenty four hours. I even tried asking this group of friends of mine why they hated him so much. They all just looked at me and as if they rehearsed it together they said in a monetone voice, " 'Cause he's Muslim." They give me a look like it was a dumb question. Because he is a Muslim? What kind of reasoning IS that. If everyone based their liking on someone's religion, then the whole world would be down in flames. I don't even know for sure if he really IS Muslim or not. Not that it even matters that much. A person's whole being isn't based on nothing, but religion, but then again, why are the two big "NO-NOs" being brought up in the first place? Personally, I don't really care what he is, where he came from, or whatever other reason people find to fight about him. I just wish him luck and hope he has better luck then the last few presidents. To me, all presidents do their very best to do a perfect job, but sometimes, luck works against them and turns the people against them. It is how you handle it that makes you a really GOOD president. So, despite all of the negativity around me....

President Obama, I truly wish you luck and peace for the rest of your time and I hope we can all grow a little bit over the four or eight years we have with you.
