While Bastille Day is a widely celebrated holiday in France, it is also celebrated in other parts of the world, particularly the New York area. This year, Bastille Day festivities in Brooklyn extend from Cobble Hill down to Tribeca.

The Bastille Day Brooklyn celebration is spearheaded by Georges Forgeois, owner of Tribeca's Cercle Rouge brasserie.

Forgeois worked for two years to find sponsors to pay for the festival, which features streets covered in sand for games of petanque, a French game played with tennis-ball-sized metal balls.

Similar Bastille Day events took place throughout the US. In Portland, thousands gathered in the Pearl District for Bastille Day festivities, which includes waiter races.

This is from the semi-finals. My friends were in team 50, but they lost this competition.
