A massive accident involving one truck was a first major accident on Bay Bridge a week after the bridge was re-opened for traffic in the wake of a prolonged shutdown caused by a snapped supporting cable. The driver of the truck carrying pears lost control and plunged 200 feet into the Bay in the early morning hours. The driver died on the scene.

The driver, who died on the scene, was transporting a full load of pears at 3:30 am. It is suspected that he was speeding, going 50 mph in 35 mph zone that’s been designated on the infamous “S” curve recently implemented on the westbound traffic lanes. The curve was installed as a temporary detour while additional repairs were being made.
