Bay Bridge Crack: Bay Bridge Likely to Remain Closed
It looks like the Bay Bridge construction will continue into Tuesday due to a crack found in the east span. As anticipated by pretty much everybody in the Bay Area, the Bay Bridge will most likely remain closed into Tuesday, as the east span detour is not quite ready. Actually, the detour itself isn't the problem: a crack was found in a nearby structure, and cracks on a bridge are never a good thing.
Caltrans will hold a press conference at 5pm today to break the bad news-- I mean, give the public an update. Those who commute from the East Bay into San Francisco should plan on taking BART or the ferry from Jack London Square or Alameda. Otherwise, it's a long drive either to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, which would mire you in Golden Gate Bridge traffic, or south to the San Mateo-Hayward bridge. There's no painless way to do it, alas.
"At this time, commuters should be thinking about a plan B if they want to be conservative," California Department of Transportation spokesman Bart Ney said.

it made me so upset to hear the bridge was still out -- it makes me take the long way every time i want to go to the beach!! I am glad they are fixing it though!

I am glad that i don't have to go over that bridge for at least three weeks -- but then i'll be neededing to use it, or go the long way around.

This is going to be interesting to see how they are going to divert the 280,000 that use the bridge during the week.
If I were one of the commuters, I would stay home.
