BC Homeowners urged to Check Titles: Fraudsters
Barry Artiste, Now Public Contributor
Certainly makes you wonder, you come home from work and find another family in the process of moving into your home. Unrealistic? Yes! Possible? Most definitely, as a fraudster is about registering title to your home and selling your home to other unsuspecting buyers.
You would think it would be easy to regain title of your castle, Nope! Not in BC, where for some reason the law is not on your side. Surprise, Surprise, what else is new in British Columbia as you scramble frantically hiring lawyers, contacting your mortgage company, tax records etc all to prove that it is your home and after thousands of dollars proving it, in the end you still may end up homeless as the new buyers take possession of your castle.
What would happen to the Fraudster if caught?
Oh come on now, you really have to ask? Hello!!! This is British Columbia with a historic Flaccid Justice System!!! Let's see, perhaps the Fraudster would spend a night in jail or two, before the judge, a high five and bail, then as the Fraudster who made a killing selling your home has cash o plenty, will either skip town for sunnier climes, or face a stern finger lashing from a BC judge, perhaps some community service. All in all, you're screwed and he is off getting tattoo'd.
Is it any surprise common sense goes out the window in this province, how the hell do these politicians and lawmakers keep getting elected? Hopefully, British Columbian's will put down that friggin Joint come election day in May 2009 and turf these idiots out of office. Cause when it happens to you, hopefully someone will listen, and it all starts with you the voter!
Home owners urged to check titlesGillian Shaw, Vancouver SunPublished: Tuesday, June 24, 2008British Columbia homeowners are being warned to check their property title to ensure their property hasn't been transferred to fraudsters who then register hundreds of thousands of dollars in mortgage debt against them.
This comes as B.C.'s land title authority is reviewing a system that could see someone fraudulently obtain title to a home and then resell it to an innocent third party, leaving the original homeowners with financial compensation but potentially driven out of their homes.
