For bears only

This is a news service for bears.  It is time to fatten up. Winter will be upon us soon and there is no time to waste. In many parts of the territory there have been drought conditions. Berries are nearly gone and grass is not as thick as normal. We’re under pressure.

Be alert for hikers and campers

You will find them in campgrounds and the best targets are campers that insist on leaving food in plain sight where it is prêt a manger (ready to eat).

Hikers use trails and all you have to do is cross them or stand by for an ambush. Bring your young bears with you as this is a great teaching moment. Also, bear cubs are a great attraction. (They are like catnip for humans.)

Remember, only you can prevent forest fires.

“Woman In Michigan's U.P. Survives Black Bear Mauling

Posted by Melissa Burlaga

Ontonagon Co. MI (Northland's NewsCenter) A Michigan woman is recovering after being mauled by a 400 pound captive black bear.

Linda beck said she was feeding the bear inside its enclosure when the animal attacked.

The bear, named daisy, belongs to a neighbor.

The woman says she was finally able to incapacitate the animal by putting a water bucket over its head.

Injured on her arms and torso, beck drove herself to a nearby home following the July 18th attack.

Beck says she's fed the bears for years without problem and doesn't place any blame.

Daisy escaped and was killed by a state trooper.”
