“Black Bear Spotted In Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Virginia Beach police are warning residents to stay away from a black bear that's been spotted in the city.

Police spokeswoman Grazia Moyers says there've been several bear sightings over the last two days. The latest occurred late Thursday.

Moyers says in a news release that a citizen reported seeing a bear around 10:50 p.m. Thursday on Mediterranean Avenue. Officers searched for the bear but couldn't find it.

Police also received several reports of the bear at the oceanfront. The last reported sighting was around midnight in the area of Cooke Elementary School.

“Black Bears maul Virginia champions

GATE CITY, Va. — Falling behind early in a hostile environment at Gate City, Va. the Harlan County Black Bears were dealt their first test of the season Friday. The Bears passed that test with flying colors.

Harlan County reeled off the next seven touchdowns on its way to an impressive 48-7 victory over the defending 1A, Division 2 Virginia state champions.
