A Bed Bath & Beyond Was Home to a Runaway in Michigan

In what could be a plot from a movie, 15-year-old boy ran away from home and found shelter in a Bed Bath & Beyond in Michigan before he was discovered.

ClickonDetroit said that the boy spent one night inside the store, despite earlier reports that said he was in there for four nights, and other stories also state that he could have been sleeping in the store for up to four nights.

Police investigators believe that the boy slipped in to the store just before closing time and hid while employees locked up the store for the night. After everyone was gone, he took a blanket from a shelf so that he could stay warm and slept under a riser. Store employees were the ones that found him and called the police.

Officials were investigating on whether the boy should be charged for trespassing, but he has been charged with larceny and one count of home truancy. Some shoppers interviewed said they were just glad he is ok:

Some shoppers, such as Raymond Thomas, were mostly sympathetic."I think that's awfully amazing and he knew what to do in the place, so that's pretty good," Thomas said.

The boy is now undergoing psychiatric exams at a detention center, as he has apparently run away from home seven times and his adopted mother said she was scared to post a personal bond because the boy might just run away again.

Officers are now studying security camera footage from inside the store.
