Two aspiring bank robbers accidentally blew up the bank and themselves in Dinant, Belgium, on Saturday morning.

The two robbers are believed to have pumped gas into the bank building through its mail slot, then lit it on fire before they managed to get far enough away. The incident occured around 3.20 am, and the explosion, which demolished most of the building, woke up almost the entire town.

One of the bank robbers was found immediately under the rubble, but the other one remained buried for a day before he was uncovered.

Authorities say they have built-in security to destroy money and documents inside if they are opened illegally. Even if it had been successful, the robbery would have been unlikely to yield anything.
The local prosecutor's office said large quantities of dynamite were found at the site - 'far' too much for just cracking open the cash dispenser. The entire building would now have to be demolished.
