Why a woman, and a Belgian woman at that, is working to encourage more men to become bombers and killers in a worldwide Muslim jihad is something that's hard to comprehend. Malika El Aroud is also encouraging women to take up jihad.

On the street, Malika El Aroud is anonymous in an Islamic black veil covering all but her eyes.

In her living room, El Aroud, a 48-year-old Belgian, wears the ordinary look of middle age: a plain black T-shirt and pants and curly brown hair. The only adornment is a pair of powder-blue slippers monogrammed in gold with the letters SEXY.

But it is on the Internet that El Aroud has distinguished herself. Writing in French under the name Oum Obeyda, she has transformed herself into one of the most prominent Internet jihadists in Europe.

She calls herself a female holy warrior for Al Qaeda. She insists that she does not disseminate instructions on bomb-making and has no intention of taking up arms herself. Rather, she browbeats Muslim men to go and fight, and rallies women to join the cause.

Sick!

I've read about mothers in the Middle East strapping bombs onto their children and sending them out into the local market so they can "martyr" themselves. What the hell is wrong with their culture?

Big T, I don't know what the hell is wrong with them or their culture, either. Here, we take kids away from parents who abuse them, leave them in hot cars, etc. There they send their children to blow up and be blown up. But they do have their apologists, even here in the U.S.  Thanks for the read and the flag.

PEP, I like this story. It's good stuff. How reliable is it that she is actually the author of this website?

Jeez, I don't know how or why this story suddenly re-appeared, but glad it did.

Rene, follow the link to the International Herald Tribune. I went and got the reporter's names for you: Elaine Sciolino and Souad Mekhennet. I'm sure you could email them via the IHT.

Thanks for the read and the flag!

PEP, interesting find. This is hard for me to comprehend, and it would be interesting to find out more about this woman and what she is all about.

It's very sad. Apparently the IHT reporters spent a great deal of time trying to understand and write about her. Thanks for the flag.
