ISRAEL FORMS ITS OWN JSOC.
The Israeli Defense Force announced Thursday the formation of what it calls the "Depth Corps," giving it the mandate "to extend joint IDF operations into the strategic depth."
The corps, which combines the different branches of Israel's special forces units, will be under the command of former elite special forces squad leader Maj. Gen. Shai Avital, who will report directly to IDF chief of staff. {Defense News,} citing interviews with senior Israeli officers, says the Corps commandos would be able to operate "far from Israel's borders" in the "third circle" - a term that generally applies to the Gulf and the Horn of Africa.
Israeli press outlets are speculating that the force may even operate inside Iran.
