NP Rank:
Best Place to Live in the Greater Vancouver Area
Since moving to Vancouver a year and a half ago and living in 4 different locations within that time, I have come to the conclusion that New Westminster is the best location to live in. Well, at least it is for a poor, struggling student. Rent is reasonable, the skytrain is within a few minutes either by bus or by foot, and it is central to Surrey, Burnaby, Vancouver, and Coquitlam. The area where I live, in particular, is within a 5-minute walk from a skytrain station, a nightclub, a library, a mall, a whole strip of restaurants, a host of pubs, starbucks, thrift store, health food store, a martial arts studio, yoga studio, several churches, and a sex shop, just to name a few. Yet the area is residential enough to go for a run without trampling a horde of people in the process. Now where else does one find such a mix of amenities all next to each other, while still offering a residential atmosphere? Sure, downtown Vancouver has more amenities, shops, restaurants, and what-have-you around the corner. But it is also loud, impersonal, and rent is ridiculous. Now that being all said, I must admit that I might be a little bit biased about what I consider my home territory.
