Bestiality Law Passed in Florida... as of May 4, 2011
Bestiality (Zoophilia) Made Illegal in Florida Just Now
Bestiality (aka zoophilia, aka "doing it with an animal") will become illegal in the state of Florida, once SB 344 is signed by Governor Rick Scott. Cue Florida jokes, sure, but hang on... this means that bestiality is not uniformly illegal in the USA.
Where is Bestiality Still Legal?
Bestiality is illegal (either as a felony or misdemeanor) in 32 US states. That means that 18 states (along with Washington, D.C.) do not have laws against having sex with animals, or have overturned such laws in the past. Note that animal welfare laws would still apply, if you even made it past the second sentence in this paragraph. Also, the social stigma attached to having sex with animals (which cannot give informed consent) is self-evident.
Bestiality is still legal in:
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- North Carolina
- West Virginia
Aside from passing an anti-bestiality bill, Florida also banned saggy trousers. So that's taken care of.
