Beth Smith, the wife of PGA golfer Chris Smith has been killed and two of his children injured in a head-on crash with a Greyhound bus, according to The News-Sentinel in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Beth Smith was killed Sunday in Angola, Ind., when her SUV collided with the bus transporting members of the Canadian semipro football team, the London Silverbacks.
Smith's children, Abigail, 16, and Cameron, 12, remained at Fort Wayne's Lutherian Hospital in critical condition.
Several members of the football team were also injured in the accident.
Steuben County Coroner Rodney Snyder said he was working to identify a badly burned body recovered from the crash site. The sheriff's department said the victim was a passenger in the front seat of a sport utility vehicle that smashed head-on into a Greyhound bus carrying members of the semipro team.
Angola Fire Department spokesman T.R. Hagerty said the crash killed an occupant of the SUV. The Stueben County Sheriff's Department would not immediately confirm who was killed in the crash along Interstate 69 near Angola, in which 12 others suffered minor injuries.
Chris Smith, 40, made the PGA Tour in 1995 and won the 2002 Buick Classic. He now plays part-time and has only been in three 2009 PGA Tour events.
