KGW News is reporting that an investigation indicates that Bethany Storro was not attacked by anyone when acid was thrown in her face, but that the attack was self-inflicted. In the press conference on September 16, police called the attack 'a hoax'.
Bethany Storro has admitted to the police that it was a self-inflicted hoax. Why she would do that to herself has not been disclosed and Storro has not spoken to the media personally.
The results of that investigation will be turned over to the county prosecutor's office.
Bethany Storro spoke to the media about a week after her attack with bandages on her face, and told how a woman had walked up to her on the street and had just thrown a cup of acid in her face for no reason.
Storro said she held the press conference to draw attention to efforts to find the attacker, but also to talk about her faith.
"I'm here today because of Jesus Christ," she said.
Storro maintained that one day she would forgive her attack, but insisted she wanted her to come forward and admit what she had done.
Her attacker was very non-descript as far as a potential suspect, she said, and fit in with the usual passersby of the Esther Park area of downtown Vancouver. At the moment of throwing the acid, she appeared to be in a rage.
Bethany Storro has been in a great deal of pain since the incident and has received support letters and e-mails from all over the world.

As soon as I heard that this was a hoax I couldn't stop laughing. LOL What a silly woman. What the heck was she thinking when talking too people who were giving her all kinds of pity while she knew all along that she did that crap to herself. This whole story is absolutely hilarious and I think it's safe to say she can never be trusted and should be known as a dishonest person for the remainder of her life. Yea she eventually told the truth but only because she was haunted by it not because she has any morality. I'm sorry to laugh about this but every time I seen her picture it provokes me to laughing at her because she's so UGLY and she made up that lie that someone sayd: "Hey pretty girl" lol

Wow. Funny? This is really not funny to me. Maybe funny, because honestly it is a LITTLE funny, but not in a ha-ha sort of way, because this really disturbs me. I also think it's funny how most people are focusing in on how she told the man it was a black woman and of course how stupid people think she is for throwing acid on her own face, but i'm concerned for her. I can't even imagine how she feels now that she can see what she's done. That's why things like this shouldn't become public, because people don't know this woman and don't care, they just have something to talk about to keep them free from boredom. This is really disturbing to me, especially seeing how apathetic people can be about something on the news. I hope she finds peace.

@Jordan - I wholeheartedly agree with you. This is really sad - the woman obviously has a mental disorder. My heart and prayers really go out to her. There's no way she could of been in her right mind to do this - to conceive of the excruciating pain and humiliation that would come as a result of her actions. Wow... I hope people pray for her and find it in their hearts to be compassionate instead of mocking and judgmental. I pray that she TRULY finds Jesus - only in Him will she find the peace and unconditional love that she is desperate for.

Yes , it IS funny. Good deeds do not go unpunished. It is funny that hereafter she will be known as "Acidgirl" . The brand is printed all over her stupid face. The "hey, pretty girl" is no longer pretty.Nutball or not , these people need to be identified , and she has certainly branded herself. haha Darwin was right!

I have to agree with the first poster Darwin. This woman is NOT attractive. So that in itself led me to believe that there was something fishy to this story. What is even more disturbing is that she so freely blamed this self-inflicted attacked on a BLACK WOMAN! Also, how can someone "look" jealous. I have no pity for this crazy nut job. The most ironic part is that she has to walk around with those horrid scars. There are better ways to get attention and mutilating yourself and blaming it on a black person is an absolute FAIL!

The only thing she's actually accomplished is making life much more dangerous for herself. Wait until she visits the same neighborhoods again. Which I doubt she should. I believe the black community now has a reason to be "full of rage" with her. Sick or not, young or not, stupid or not, suicidal or not, even I'm a little angry with her actions!!!
