Pray The Bible Way

How did Abraham,  Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David and Jesus prey?

A few Biblical verses should clarify the situation.    Genesis 17: 3  "And Abraham fell on his face and God talked with him".         Numbers 20:6 (Moses and Aaron)   They fell upon their faces and the glory of the lord appeared unto them.

Joshua 7:6 [Joshua]   "....Fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the Lord untill eventide"

Jesus:   Mathew 26: 39  "going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and preyed".

Mathew 17:16 "When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground, terrified".

Many other verses are to be found in this Youtube video    in the following link.

The bible does not tell us to do it this way.  They followed the customs of the day.

Prayer must be sincere, must give thanks in addition to asking for help and must not ask for bad things.

If this is done the prayer will be heard but not all prayers get a yes answer.

That was the custom 1, 2 4 thousand years ago.  Just as it was a custom to bow to rulers of nations.

Customs change.

There is nothing wrong with how Muslims pray, it is admirable.  But if they are not sincere how they pray will not matter.,

Prayer is giving thanks to God, we have free will a gift from God, bad does not come from God it comes from imperfect creatures making mistakes and also from bad forces. Jesus describes himself as the son of man 81 times in the Bible

Whome is Jesus refering to in John 14:16-17 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever, even the spirit of truth". John 16:13-14 "When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me..."

Matthew 23:9 Jesus says, "and call no man father upon the earth, for one is the father in heaven". The Bible was re-compilled/written in ancient Greek, the ancient Greeks only had one word for son and servant (sorry, the word escapes me, but please check for yourselves) this word was translated as servant in reference to Moses but as son in reference to Jesus, why? Jesus spoke of himself as the servant of God not the son as is evidenced by the references he gives to himself as being the son of man.

Interesting point Sputnic, the concept of the trinity is confusing to say the least, i have always thought of it this way, God is all powerful right, of that we can all agree. Also God is everywhere all the time so why would he need to have three parts to be in varing places at once

It is possible that you are right, God may well answer the prayers of the sincere   no matter how they pray.   Why then, though, has every messenger of God,  prayed as a muslim does today? You saw the video !

Thanks for this story ! It´s good to meditate on our prayer life. Praying has been set aside by many living in these modern times, the truth is, it should be a way of living. To pray without ceasing is like the breathing of our soul.

Rejoice always,  pray without ceasing,  in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.Do not quench the Spirit.  Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.

1 Tesalonians. 5:16

I agree.Jesus also many times referred to himself as the Son of God.

He was both God and Man.

Jesus is speaking of the Holy Spirit, the spirit of God, the third person of the triune God.

The Greek word for son is HUIOS.

The Greek word for servant ios DOULOS

So you think Jesus is saying a prayer to God in order for God to give people God and that Jesus is, in fact, also God ?

The words I used are the words used in the bible, as written in Greek of the 1st century,

Maybe you were referring to the Hebrew of the Old Testament.

I agree in a way with your standpoint in reference to what God allows. I believe the allowance is due to the ability of choice. Without choice there is no love and no faith. Therefore, in my mind it is not so much that God allows things to happen whether they are good or bad, but every event is necessitated and alloted for by the gift of choice.

Or to put it another way 158; you are claiming that Jesus prayed to himself to ask himself to send himself ? Is this the triun of which you speak ?

I gave you the original words used in the NT

No.  I gave you the Catholic doctrine.

One way this is explained is a hand. The fingers are separate from each other but work together as a hand.,

God is a spirit and mostly cannot change the physical world,

Jesus was able to come to earth in a human body and as a physical and spiritual divine bering he was able to work miracles where God could not.

I sometimes give money to my imaginary friend, just in case he's real!

God who made the physical world cannot change it ? How does that work ?

Good comment info.star thank you. Also thanks Barry Artiste good point well made ! Worshipping God the way you imagine God to be, as opposed reality, is another form of idolatry

Good comment.

It does seem prayers should be limited to worship centers or at home and not be done in public places.

"Everything bad and good is allowed by God for reasons we cannot understand."  I see this a little differently.  Most of God's promises are to be fulfilled in heaven or they are promises for spiritual help on earth, and not meant to provde physical needs on earth.

Ancient Greek not modern Greek as I made perfectly clear. The words you just used are modern Greek.

I think it is a little deeper than that.

The bible says God is a spirit and he works in the spiritual realm.

I think God is very limited in what he can do in the physical world at this time.

While he can give is spiritual healing he mostly cannot heal physical ills and cannot stop bad things from happening.
