Nuclear waste
Do we have the right to pollute the Universe with nuclear waste ? 250 billion galaxies are out there. Our favourite Nuke scientists betrayed us over years. They never intend really to store the dangerous waste in some mountains, contaminating groundwater 100 years later. In reality they wait for Plan B. Shoot the $hit to your neighbour, just say their is none in the Universe

French scientists: sun
In the french science & vie journal was a speculative article, how to send nuclear waste directly in the sun, it is anyway dirty there. The newly in Use one way vehicle ATV 7.5 tons load up into space, no return shield, makes suspicious, if that is the preform of "Nuclear waste, one way into the sun". probably the sun backfires with a magnetic storm, ending live on earth.

"Protect the sun, we will need the solar energy for food, light ...Don't throw nuclear garbage in the center of the sun. Space is not a free garbage place. You space cowboys try to shoot the Sun, but instead you can be sure, we ground you  first this time.

American, japanese scientists: space
The bizarre Idea to finance a space elevator with nuclear waste transported ton by ton up into space and then just let it fly away, is as crazy as to say, I need no toilet, I will have a pipeline in the neighbours garden.

United Nations Clean space conference
This scientists are not trustworthy. Public opinion has to opt for CLEAN SPACE. The problem has to be discussed under a first United Nations Clean Space conference

The cable would extend into the sky, eventually reaching a satellite docking station orbiting in space.

Engineers hope the elevator will transport people and objects into space, and there have even been suggestions that it could be used to dispose of nuclear waste

Reader comment
I just think that it'll be a waste of time, resources, and money. It'll be a maintenance nightmare. In addition, sending nuclear waste into space isn't exactly a solution to the problem. I'm sure that the deployment of nuclear waste on this elevator would take some time to get from ground into space. During that time, a terrorist could bomb the elevator and then you'll have a nuclear holocaust. Besides, what if asteroids hit the elevator in space or eventually the nuclear waste could come back close to Earth's orbit and fall back to us? I say take that money and creativity and work on how to improve our clean energy goals.

SOLARLIFE, I like this story. It's good stuff. Yeah, but what do you do if it veers off course and heads back to earth?

Barry..."Yeah, but what do you do if it veers off course and heads back to earth?" ....space elevator distributing nuclear waste into space; thanks for Flag

...I'm a nuclear scientists...and opposed to nuclear energy for other reasons

but this article is entirely flawed

even if all the worlds nuclear warheads and waste were to be send to the sun...nay, exploding on to the sun, absolutely nothing would happen.

As the one intelligent commenter said: the problem lies in the resource expenditure

don't plague the internet with poorly researched kneejerk filth

thank you

Good night Nuke waste doctors. Scientists take car of Life, don't shoot the Sun with Nuke waste, best regards Solarlife taking care of Planet and the Sun. In case the Nuke load falls back to the Earth, hope it hits you directly

Cheaper by orders of magnitude to accelerate the material to solar escape velocity than into the sun.

Fairbanks thanks for support "United Nations Clean Space conference"

what is clean space?  is it the pulsar that is spewing out tons of radiation?

Storage of nuclear waste on other planets or the moon is the best by far. Obviously the method of getting it there is where the research lies. The spin off would be cheap access to space and cleaner air. Currently, France has the highest amount of nuclear reactors in the world, and enjoys the cleanest air of any developed country. Majority of the worlds reactors are PWRs (Pressure Water Reactor) which is obsolete and has the potential for incidents like 3 mile island. The next generation is PBR reactors (Pebble Bed Reactor) which uses spheres the size of tennis balls instead of rods, is walk away safe (Pebble bed reactors lower their output, when they overheat making meltdowns impossible). Storage of spent fuel on other planets or the moon is the perfect reason for humanity to stop bickering with each other and start looking to the stars.
