US  Immigration agents have conducted a sweeping raid in Los Angeles, California,   and rounded up suspected illegal aliens who have criminal records.

"Enhancing public safety is at the core of ICE's mission," Morton said. "Legal immigration is an important part of our country's history, and the American dream exists for many immigrants. However, that dream involves playing by the rules, and those who break our criminal laws will be removed from the country.

CE reported about 80 percent of the immigrants taken into custody had prior convictions for serious or violent crimes such as rape, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Also arrested were 30 convicted sex offenders, many of whom had been convicted of sexual assaults on children.

Immigrations and Customs enforcement officers are focusing increasingly on those illegal immigrants who have criminal records.

Among those arrested were those who had felony convictions, as well as many sex offenders,  ICE officials reported.

LOS ANGELES — Immigration agents say they have arrested 280 people in California in what authorities call the biggest crackdown yet aimed at rounding up suspected illegal immigrants with criminal records.

The major sweep announced Friday occurred in local communities.

In addition to the 280 with criminal records, Immigration and Customs Enforcement say another six people who are under deportation orders were also arrested.

ICE chief John Morton said in August the agency's fugitive operations teams would focus increasingly on finding immigrants with criminal records.

About time. All that needs to be said.

Well, I think the fact that they are placing emphasis on the criminal convictions is trying to sound a compassionate note for such who are not criminal.....seems so....

!00% agreement.  I'm more interested in getting the thugs and criminal type gone, than i am about the rest.

Sometime.....who knows when, who knows who, someone is going to have to come up with a coherent policy to handle the rest of the problem.
