This green paint clearly makes a "conflict zone"-- a spot where bike lane traffic crosses paths with motorized traffic. Here an interstate offramp merges into a road with a bike lane.

Such pavement markings have already been used successfully in Copenhagen:

I find them to be very functional myself, and I've also heard positive reviews of them from cyclists and motorists in Portland, Oregon
