Here traffic from a bike lane is being ramped on to a sidewalk. Notice the the two shades of concrete on the sidewalk. It appears this was not originally a walking or biking bring, with just a very narrow sidewalk. The wider sidewalk seen in the foreground was apparently a retrofit.
Bicycling on sidewalks is usually considered a bad idea, but they did several things right in this project:
- The sidewalk is wide enough for both pedestrian and bike traffic
- The bike traffic is explicitly one way (There is a parallel bridge for reverse traffic)
- The "lanes" for bikes and pedestrians are clearly marked
- Appropriate transistions are provided from on-street bike lanes to the sidewalk.
