In Alabama,  a bill has been drafted by a state  legislator which aims to prevent the state's public universities from offering domestic-partner benefits.

DuWayne Bridges (R-Alabama)  has the bill ready for the next session in January 2010.  If passed,  the state's public universities and colleges would have state funds cut off if they recognize domestic partnerships of their employees.

Some gay advocates are pointing out that this prohibition in itself makes a strong case for the legalization of gay marriage (domestic partnerships being a shaky foundation).

The legislation would prohibit public universities from receiving state funds if they offer benefits to same-sex partners.

“Universities may be free to engage in whatever liberal social experiments they choose, but they should do it on their own dimes and not the taxpayers',” Bridges said in unveiling the legislation, reports TheTuscaloosa News.

Bridges's bill is aimed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, which currently allow faculty and staff members to sign up for benefits for domestic partners of either sex.

How can they do this? Isn't this a secular institution? Since when can they pass laws mandating conduct?

Once passed, why, folks will be able to obey it!

There should be a law against passing laws!

It's just Alabama  - let Bobby-Joe and Billy-Bob Boy be

Isn't that one of your states anyway?

A secular decision..are you trying to hoodwink this old boy?

It is a secular mechanism. I suspect it was not a secular decision

Go Alabama! If two people make the CHOICE to be homosexual, then it was their CHOICE to lose the benefits of taking natures natural course and selecting a mate of the opposite sex that can actually procreate and pass on their legacy instead of going the way of the dodo. Everyone wants to make homosexuality out to be a disease when its a simple choice. You choose to sin, you choose to go against what makes a society work and that is the Bible. We are in biblical times now, but we have just advanced in the ways of technology. If we dont adhere to what God and natural selection have planned for us and shown us, then we are nothing but self-pleasing animals who want what they cant and shouldnt be allowed to have. People are afraid to stand up for what they believe in. If your son came home with a boyfriend you would be completely ok with that? you would just say its ok and its their choice, but then most will go right around and say its a disease and they cant help it... I know i wouldnt be, but then again i understand that the strong will survive and the weak will perish, and homos are definitely weak and will forever spend eternity in the grave...
