Bin Laden’s final message: one you can believe in

What can you believe? Change is happening in the Middle East that is driven by the people. Tyrannical leaders are vulnerable.

Rulers have become idols who manipulate to stay in power. Not to name names, Gaddafi.

The beef that I think the West has is about the use of Islamic law as a foundation for Middle Eastern governments. The West doesn’t accept Islamic law and will never do so. The values imbedded therein conflict with democratic freedom as we know it and live it. We will reject Islamic law and to Muslims that means we reject you.

A compromise is needed to resolve this circumstance.

“Though both bin Laden and the West have generally supported protest movements in Egypt, Tunisia and elsewhere, their goals are very different. The West hopes the protests will lead to democratic reforms. Bin Laden and his followers saw many Middle East governments as corrupt and hoped their collapse would lead to government based on their interpretation of Islamic law.

In the recording, Bin Laden accused rulers of building themselves into idols and manipulating the media to stay in power.

“So, what are you waiting for?” he implored listeners. “Save yourselves and your children, because the opportunity is here.””
