birkenau barracks ll

bunks separated by a concrete 'pipe' connected to a stove which was supposed to heat the entire barracks. apparently it didn't work worth shite. my memory is alread a little foggy and it was an oppressive place, so i may be wrong, but i think our guide said this was some kind of a quarantine place for those with something worse than the normal camp diseases - dyssentry, tuberculosis, influenza, fever, pneumonia, etc.
birkenau was the end of the line for most of the poor souls who wound up here. it was the quintessential death camp, the logical conclusion to nazi germany's final solution.
