A female special education teacher was shot and killed Friday morning at Birney Elementary School in Tacoma in what appears to be a domestic dispute

The suspect ran away after the shooting but was shot and killed at 166th and Canyon Road East in Frederickson after being chased by police.

The Seattle PI reports that the shooting happened in the school parking lot just before 8am this morning and just before students were due to arrive at the school on the school buses.

The names of the victim and suspect have not been released, but Mark Fulghum of the Fulghum Police said that the two knew each other and that the shooting was a case of domestic violence, although their exact relationship has not been made clear to the media.

The teacher had an order of protection against the suspect however.

Birney Elementary School has been closed for the day.

Birney Elementary school, located in the 1200 block of South 76th Street in Tacoma, is closed for the day. Parents are urged to stay away from the area.

We will update this post when we know more information.
