Birthers embarrass the Republicans | Thomas Noyes
Never one to miss an opportunity to have a dig at wingnuts - this piece in the Guardian came up, and explained it far better than I.
Wingnuttery is an epidemic in the current Republican phase - and, after a few beers and thinking about it - I think the Obama team are playing an absolute blinder!
The birther controversy has a tight grip on rightwing opponents who argue that Obama is not the lawful president. FactCheck.org took a thorough look at the issue – and the birth certificate itself – and concluded: "It meets all of the requirements from the state department for proving US citizenship."
The website went further: "We suggest that those who choose to go down that path should first equip themselves with a high-quality tinfoil hat." But the birthers seem immune to the lack of evidence. As Michael Tomasky points out: "He can't prove he's not a space alien either."
The nutty theories didn't end with the birth certificate. Members of the crowd told Castle that global warming is a hoax and just a theory like evolution. You can't tax carbon dioxide, he was told, because "trees need CO2 to make oxygen!"
Now, why would I say that?
"You mean, Mr Cynic, that president Obama isn't a US citizen?"
Well no - he is, all the proof is there - what is there, too, is wingnuts...well, being wingnuts. They don't have an ounce of common-sense, nor logic. Unless your logic is based on unfounded fears, whacky radio hosts, and Rupert Murdoch's FoxNews.
What is good to watch is that, while the Republicans KNOW they have to get he independents on side to even think about winning in 2012 - the wingnuts are making the Republicans look like, well, loons! Oh joy for those who are in safe Republican States - they can say what they like, if they did say that Obama was a space alien they would still be re-elected with a "Told ya so, y'all"
But, the blinder that Obama and his people are playing is in exposing the GOP/Republicans/Conservatives for what they are - well, the right-wing lobby are. There are many, many Republicans who are nowhere near - nor want to be the close to the wingnuttery, and if we see, they are keeping quite. The GOP leadership have kept quite after saying that Obama is an American, a natural born one at that - but still some commentators keep this up, because it seems like they are going to get a victory - of some sort - out of it.
If it was me I would keep my birth details from any a-roving eye. Let them keep up with the madness that is happening - and show both America and the world why Republicans cannot be trusted near a sharp knife let alone government.
Quite spectacular, Mr Obama, quite, quite.
