Bizarre Twist in Amanda Knox Case

In Perugia,  Italy,  the deposition of a Sicilian bricklayer serving a life sentence in the same prison with Rudy Guede has added a bizarre development in the Amanda Knox case.

Quote

The opinion said the prosecution's case had "no gaps or incongruencies." It cited forensic evidence, but also inconsistent statements, alibis that didn't hold up when cross referenced with cell phone and computer records, the staging of the crime scene and Knox's pinning the blame on Patrick Lumumba as factors that led to a guilty verdict.

According to a report from Seattle Pi,  on  Friday attorneys for Raffaele Sollecito, Amanda Knox's former boyfriend, provided this deposition as  a new piece of evidence in the slaying of British student Meredith Kercher.

In the statement the fellow convict claims Guede confided in him that Knox and Sollecito were innocent and that the murder was committed by a friend of Guede's who had gone to Kercher's house for a threesome.

Mario Alessi, 38, is currently serving a life sentence in connection with the brutal kidnapping and murder of  a 2-year-old boy from Parma , Tommasso Onofri  in 2006.   The Bologna Court of Appeals received a request for authorization which was made by Sollecito's attorneys.  They also sent their legal assistants to videotape Alessi's statement in Viterbo, where he is housed in the same sex crimes unit.

Alessi claims he has written several letters to Sollecito's attorney, Giulia Bongiorno, because he wanted to convey what he had heard from Rudy Guede.  He also says in the statement that 3 fellow-inmates will uphold his story.

Buongiorno is a high-profile Sicilian attorney and parliamentarian who heads a governmental justice commission.  She was told that Guede had said on several occasions that Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito had nothing to do with the murder.

Alessi gives a detailed description of the scene  with Kercher getting wounded in the struggle.  While Guede tried to stem the bleeding, the friend said "we'd better finish her off or we'll both rot in prison," according to Alessi's account.

Less than credible?

Guede has  denied ever speaking to Alessi about these matters.  Moreover,   Alessi's appeal of his life sentence was denied, so he is not credible,  and is said to be trying to get attention out of desperation.  He has also given misleading information to authorities in the past.

In this time frame,   Amanda Knox has looked at the 427 page opinion offered on the ruling in her verdict.

The opinion, however, deviated from the prosecution's theory of Amanda being the ring leader in a pre-planned sex game, and instead offered a scenario of a spontaneous counter gone out of control,  press say.

Knox's lawyers Friday said they are encouraging her to have faith in the appeals process, despite her obvious disappointment in the judge and jury's reasoning, "We believe Amanda Knox is telling the truth and we intend to keep insisting ," said Knox's Perugia lawyer, Luciano Ghirga, interviewed by the seattlepi.com on Friday. "Point by point we will be contesting the conclusions of the court and we intend to ask for an independent review of the forensic evidence on appeal. The game is not over."

Newspapers in Italy jumped on the strange twist. If verifiable, it is a bombshell development one that could lead to Knox and Sollecito's eventual release. Skeptics, however, say it could be nothing more than a bluff or murky behind the scenes maneuvering now that the appeals process is underway.

Mignini was found guilty of illegal phone tapping, abuse of high office,    and dereliction of duty in connection with "The Monster of Florence"  case in Italy.  Mignin has been sentenced to one year,  4 months jail time.  But he will remain free and at work while the appeals process is served.....

I am of the mind that in general you cannot trust the word of a convected killer on most anything, but if Guede  is as scary crazy as he looks - it could just be another KC Anthony situation. Guede without his admirers is nothing, so possibly he has said such things to fellow inmates... Whether what he said or not is true or not remains to be seen.
