Blah, blah, blah – scuffle, waffle – cry, Sanford is a Republican

I really don’t know what Republicans expect, but – Sanford is a Republican – remember those family values?

Some vague thoughts come to me about how he sid something in the past about those…now what was it?

(CNN) — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford told the woman with whom he was having an affair they were “in a hopelessly impossible situation of love” last year when he was thought to be under consideration for the Republican vice presidential nomination, according to e-mails obtained by The State newspaper.

OK – Sanford is human – we all can make mistakes – that’s a great part of being human, not that you would think so by what Republicans constantly say.

I hope his marriage survives, I hope that he finds genuine peace within himself. But can we now look at what is really important and not the family values shit that keeps being espoused by the GOPers?

We can live in hope.

So....

Because we're human and make mistakes, we therefore shouldn't aspire to a higher ideal, huh?

So...

Because "we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God," why frickin' even bother trying, right? Screw it. Bring on the hedonism!

What 'xactly is it about "family values" that just irks the shit out of you Lefties? Theoretically, you're the product of a family. You just cannot conceive that there are inwardly focused domestic units out there?

I can't tell you how many times I saw a "Hate is not a family value" bumper sticker next to an "Impeach Bush!" bumper sticker. There is plenty of hypocrisy to go around.

The thing is, Cynic, you will never never NEVER move your ideological foes from their own hypocrisies. Never. It just doesn't happen. Hasn't happened in the history of mankind.

You can, however, move your ideological brethren off theirs.

If we both work within our own camps, we can make this a better world for each other. I'll work on the politicians who vote against gay issues while buggering gays in airport bathrooms.

Maybe you can start on "Two America" politicians who live in multi-million dollar mansions next to ramshackle trailers and donate $300 a year to charity.

Nothing - just the hypocrisy of the right who try to impose their family values on the rest of us and then do exactly the opposite.

I can never really understand why Americans get so hung up by these kind of stories, in Europe or Japan this wouldn't even be much of a scandal! People are human with all their faults. What's important is how good a governor he his?

What's important is how good a governor he his?

He lied to his staffers about hiking in the Appalachian Mountains to cover up one of his trips to see his mistress.  He spent $8,000 of taxpayer money to carry on his affair.  He disappeared for long periods of time on South America for this.  He is not a good governor.  He's not just another man that had an affair.  He did it on the taxpayer dime and through not only lying to his wife, but also to the entire state of SC.

Go to http://www.thestate.com/ and type Sanford in the search box.

This idiot deserves to get canned, but I know he won't.

$8,000  sounds a bit on the high side do your have a reference to back that number up.  Not trying to be snarky just wanting to look it up

Go to http://www.thestate.com/ and type Sanford in the search box.

The State is based out of Columbia, the capital of SC.  The State is the newspaper that found out about all of this.

"How good a Governor he is" is debatable.  For me, he is a fine Governor for many he is too  right leaning for their liking. His has had difficulty with popularity due to his stimulus money fight.  I believe this incident will cause him to humble himself and ultimately will be good for him and his family

It's the hypocrisy.  As Craig Ferguson has said:  "I am not the Democrats b!tch", however it's the right that goes on and on about God and the Bible and family values.  I am so pro-family like you wouldn't believe, and it burns me to see anyone, regardless of political leaning, that can't walk the talk and points the finger at others that are committing the same shortcoming as she/he is committing.

Republicans believe in family values.  We all miss the mark and fall short.  The GOP present what is the ideal but both Republicans and democrats fall short of that goal on a regular basis.  I understand that if you run on family values, you will be held to a higher standard.  I agree that if you support an ideal, one should do their best to live it in your own life.

I think this incident should cause us all to look at our own lives and focus on our family as the most important component of our lives.  We should all wake up and realize we are all human but at the same time focus on our own marriages and family so we won't fall as did the governor.

The real problem is that Gov Sanford failed to transfer power and let his location be known to his staff.  He also used a Govt Vehicle for personal use.  He also used public funds for his trip.  This is very inappropriate and has caused an investigation into his past actions
