The Archdiocese of Baltimore is investigating a possible miracle after Mary Ellen Heibel was cured of cancer after praying to St. Francis X. Seelos, a former priest at Heibel's Maryland church.

Five years ago, the seven-year-old Heibel was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Heibel's friend suggested she pray to St. Francis Xavier Seelos, a 19th century priest who worked at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Annapolis in the 1860s.

"And then I had my CAT scan and all the tumors had left," Heible says. "They had all disappeared."

With just a week's worth of prayers to the Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, Mary Ellen Heibel was cured.

"I just didn't know what to think," said Heibel. "I was thrilled."

So too, she says, was her oncologist.

"He just said nothing like that had ever happened to him before," Heibel explained.

Parishioners at St. Mary's hope to send a report to the Vatican in the hopes that the pope will certify Heibel's recovery as a miracle.
