Bob Kellar Disavowed by Meg Whitman After Kellar's Racist Remarks
Santa Clarita Councilman Bob Kellar was disavowed by Republican hopeful Meg Whitman today after what many say were racist comments made by Kellar at a recent Tea Party like rally in Southern California. See a news report on the subject.
At this rally, Bob Kellar blamed illegal immigrants for damaging the U.S economy and his comments caused uproar amont the public. Just yesterday California Democrats called on Whitman to distance herself from Kellar.
Whitman's campaign spokeswoman Sarah Pompei says Kellar's comments are unacceptable. She says Kellar has voluntarily ended his involvement with the campaign.
Kellar had endorsed Whitman, but today he voluntarily relinquished that endorsement.
At the rally Kellar said in response to some people saying he sounded like a racist:
"That's good. If that's what you think I am because I happen to believe in America, I'm a proud racist, you're darn right I am."
He says now he wished he had not used the word 'racist' and many council members have stated that they believe Kellar is not a racist.
