At least 65 people were killed and 111 injured Friday morning in a suicide bomb explosion at the entrance of Assistant Political Agent Lower division, tehsil Ekka Ghund, sources told.
According to details the bomber struck when the people have gathered around the Assistant Political Agent office and food distribution hub of World Food Program at 9:15 am on Friday.
The sound of the high intensity explosion was heard in a wide radius in the surrounding villages destroying 40 to 50 shops, 2 hotels, 6 houses and the sub divisional headquarters jail building. Political Agent, Amjad Ali Khan, confirmed 65 death casualties and 111 injured till compilation of this report in the huge incident in history of Mohmand Agency. 7 personnel of Khasadar forces 3 women and 3 children were among the dead. The injured were being shifted to the hospital of Shabqadar and Peshawar where condition of several is critical and increase in the death toll is feared.
“It was a very huge blast and a dark cloud of smoke enwrapped us after the explosion, and screams were heard everywhere in the bazar”, a local journalist, Mukarram Khan who was present at the scene, told this scribe. The people were busy round the day in rescuing and evacuating the dead and injured people from the debris while no machinery or government help was available. A security official present at the place of incident said that at least 30 inmates also escaped from the jail when the gate and a wall of the jail damaged with the blast.
Main Bajaur-Peshawar road remained closed due to the security and rescue work operation. No prominent group of militants has claimed the responsibility so far. It was the deadliest militant attacks in the wake of militancy and military operation in Mohmand tribal region.
