Until recently, my home town of Boone, North Carolina was considered by many to be a safe haven from violence and crime. I have now learned how quickly something can change without me having any real awareness that it is going on. Things are changing very rapidly in this small mountain town that is nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. On Sunday, July 21, the first bomb that the town has ever seen was found at the front door of the local Walmart at opening time. It turns out that the bomb was set to go off but the maker did not assembly it very well. My point in making this post is that things are getting crazy in all aspects where I am. The crime is going way up, the temperature is going way up, and the people are losing their damn minds. You have to understand that nothing like this has EVER occurred anywhere near here, with the exception of Eric Rudolph and his abortion clinic bombings. Maybe I am just freaking out, but it scares me that these things are starting to happen in small towns such as mine. The article below is from the local newspaper, the Watauga Democrat.
A possible explosive or incendiary device was discovered Sunday morning at Walmart.
Investigator with the Boone Police, Matt Stephens, reported a Walmart employee found a suspicious device at the front entrance of the store at approximately 5:40 a.m. Boone Police and Boone Fire Department responded and confirmed the device as potentially dangerous. The Wilkes County Critical Response Group bomb unit responded and disrupted the device in front of the store.
Captain William Greene of the Boone Police Department said they are currently reviewing video footage from the scene. Green said the S.B.I. is helping in the investigation and the F.B.I. has offered their support.
Greene said the device was placed in front of Walmart in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Greene also said this is the only time he can remember that a bomb threat reported was in Boone and a device was actually found at the scene.
No one was injured due to the incident.
Stephens reported surveillance footage shows a person jogging toward the front of the store, loitering at the front door as if placing the device, then fleeing on foot.

Investigators are not able to release information concerning the device itself.
