Bomb goes off outside Athens office block
A bomb exploded outside a office block housing banks and other financial services in the Athens district of Kallithea early this morning. The home made explosive device which was detonated using a timing mechanism went off at approximately 4am this morning after warning a call had been made to the Eleutherotypia newspaper. No casualties were reported and eye witnesses accounts say that the damage was limited to the outside of the building. No group has so far claimed responsibility.
In addition and improvised explosive device went off outside the offices of the ruling New Democracy party in Athens last night at 2.45am. Today's attacks are the latest in a wave of arson and bomb incidents that have swept Greece since the riots and protests last December. Yesterday police reported finding four IEDs outside churches in Athens, Thessaloniki and Piraeus and a bank was burnt torched in the centre of the country's second city, Thessaloniki in the early hours of Friday morning.
Acting minister for law and order, Christos Markogianakis, has vowed not to let the country decend into chaos and to deal with the hundreds of attacks on banks, police stations and other public offices that have taken place over the previous four months
