London mayor Boris Johnson has said that he thinks the UK should start building "first-timers only" prisons. so that people who have committed only their first crime don't mix with repeated offenders.q url="http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?Boris_wants_first-timers_only_prisons&in_article_id=385030&in_page_id=34"]First-time offenders should be kept separated from hardened criminals in purpose-built jails, says Boris Johnson.

The London mayor said the move would save millions of pounds by stopping people becoming repeat offenders.

Young criminals were easy meat for the current prison system, Mr Johnson added. 'I think we should be trying to keep them separate from career criminals so they can get the education that they need.

'I don't think the current system is delivering value to our society,' he said.
