Boston Fire Chief Ronald Keating says four people have been rescued from a fire at a 10-story condominium building in Boston's Back Bay. There were rushed to the hospital and their condition is still unknown. Keating said, "the building has been evacuated, and we don't know how many people were at home when the fire broke out."
Fire Commissioner Roderick Fraser said that one firefighter also was taken to a hospital with chest pains. Keating said, "the building has no smoke detectors, it was built before they were required" He said, "
174 people are living in this building." Keating also said that investigators think the fire started in a seventh-floor unit. The eighth floor was quickly engulfed by smoke. It's under control at 3:50pm Eastern according to Fire Chief Keating, and fire rescue, police are on the scene to stop the spread to any additional floors or buildings.
Authorities are at the scene of a fire at a 10-story condominium building in Boston's Back Bay. Boston firefighters could be seen with ladders extended to the building early Wednesday afternoon but no flames were visible from outside the building. The Boston Globe reports at least one person has been rescued. There were no immediate reports on injuries. The building is located at the intersection of Beacon Street and Massachusetts Avenue.
