Boycott Israel= Boycott Peace

As the Israel-Palestine conflict gets more and more complicated, we- and by we I mean I, by writing that story, and you, by reading and responding to it, get more and more involved in this almost everlasting battle. This, on one hand, is great- it does show me that people all over the world care about mankind. However, it also shows our politically inaccurate and comprehensively distorted idea of right and wrong. It is, of course, of no surprise that a country the economy of which relies on Jewish-owned companies and Saudi- oil (and by that I mean the USA) will avoid any involvement in this conflict. That, of course, does not mean that the public will not be exposed to our leaders' unofficial opinion channeled to us by the media. The problem is that sometimes the leader is not always the political leader...Sometimes, as the history has shown, this 'leader' my be a highly payed PR practitioner using each and every possible way of playing with our emotions in order to achieve certain public mood.

Let me begin with something very, very old- the war between Kuwait and Iraq which led to the war between Iraq and the US! Does anybody remember the case with the baby atrocities there?!? For those who don't- this was a story told by a Kuwaiti nurse in which she stated that all of the equipment from the newly born's section in the hospital she works in was taken away by the Iraqi army and that these very same soldiers left the babies on the cold floor to die. All that under oath. What became known, after the American 'conscious' public opinion was triggered and people volunteered to join in the war, was that this girl was no nurse but a member of the Kuwaiti Royal family and that the so widely spread stories about the babies were not true. It was all a PR campaign.(There was also oil involved). The media was highly involved as well!!!

We all remember 9/11 and how we were all afraid to board a plane if there were people who were or even looked Muslim... And the war in Afghanistan began- as you can recall it did not need any campaign for enrollment- everybody volunteered to be part of it. Bin Laden was never found...The war turned out to be a lost cause, inefficient and poorly coordinated. And only months before that the media was showing all these images and maps of Afghanistan- it seemed so easy to win this war- just fly in there and put hand cuffs on the terrorists hiding in the so easy-to -reach caves...Another war the media sold...

The next thing I want to remind you is the war in Iraq... Some journalists even won Pulitzer prizes for writing stories on the weapons of mass destruction that Iraq supposedly had . That fear wave spread and swept over the whole US nation with a strength more destructive than the one of a Tsunami. The American nation again supported the war- one more, or one less it didn't quite matter at thit time. Unfortunately- no such weapons of mass destruction were ever found. This was another extremely skillful and highly professional PR campaign. Sold by the media again!!!

Now the media is showing us pictures and scenes from Gaza every day!!! I just want to know where was the media during the other 355 days and why nobody was showing what was going on in this region before? Why nobody showed us how the conflict began?   Why is everybody showing us footages from after it started? Why do we all believe everything we see on the news when we all know that a big part of it is manipulation and favoritism (unfortunately)? Why are the journalists taking a side again? Why are they deciding who our heroes should be?

Now all we see is how many people the Israeli army has killed, how many  Palestinian kids were killed... That is a real tragedy and I am quite sure that ,unfortunately,it is true...I feel terrible hearing about that and i feel sorry for those innocent lives. However, nobody showed us how many Palestinian kids were sent to Gaza as suicide bombers throughout the years of conflict between Israel and Palestine. Nobody tells us how densely populated Gaza is and how complicated it is to perform a military operation in such a small and overpopulated city. Nobody tells us that the reason behind the seemingly unreasonable bombing of buildings and killing of civilians is due to the fact that Hamas has no other means and no other weapons but 'human shields' which is the reason for to these innocent people to be killed. Nobody talks about all the tunnels found by the Israeli army in Gaza, and let's be real- those tunnels were not used for anything other than smuggling weapons, terrorists and drugs. But the media is hosting the show again...

And if we look at the matters from a different angle... All the wars that the US got involved in after 9/11 were OK because it was us and our lives at risk. The death of civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq seemed like it was not a big deal- and just to remind you- kids, women and innocent men died during those wars too. It was not that intensively broadcasted by the media as if it was OK?!? Oh, wait- that was for OUR safety!!! Now, when it is not our safety at risk, it is no longer OK to kill people during war!?! It is sad and it is tragic but the truth is that during war, it is the civilians that give the most casualties. Now, when it's not our life at stake- we feel like we have the right to tell people that they are war criminals, aggressors, savages!?!Why? Because we have never done that before, because we have never acted the same way before, because when terrorists threatened us we didn't fight back by killing people?!?

We really have to realize that the US citizen does not know what it is like your neighboring country to be firing missiles into your cities. The US citizen does not know what a war on US territory is. There are a lot of things we don't know. But what we all know is that once the conversation stops- the war gets in its heaviest and most intense phase. A future boycott means end of the conversation. Therefore, I support any voice raised in favor of and any call for cease fire and end of this conflict but I do not support a boycott.

All the media outlets are showing us biased information and this is inevitable as the media is ment to cater to the home needs. The media is always the weapon used against us in order to shape our public opinion and fit it in certain norms. It is up to us to separate the facts from the emotions and act as civilized and educated human beings rather than let our emotions be triggered by the animal-like insticts based on the Prehistoric stimmulus- reaction principle. My call is- don't boycott Israel (I do not support the Israeli government in most of their actions)- blog, protest, talk, write,  do anything to help cease fire in Gaza but do not stop the conversation if you really want this conflict to end soon.

Punitive measures will alienate rather than persuade Israelis.

The world has tried what used to be called "constructive engagement". It has failed utterly. Since 2006 Israel has been steadily escalating its criminality: expanding settlements, launching an outrageous war against Lebanon, and imposing collective punishment on Gaza through the brutal blockade. Despite this escalation, Israel has not faced punitive measures - quite the opposite. The weapons and $3bn in annual aid the US sends Israel are only the beginning. Throughout this key period, Israel has enjoyed a dramatic improvement in its diplomatic, cultural and trade relations with a variety of other allies. For instance, in 2007 Israel became the first country outside Latin America to sign a free-trade deal with the Mercosur bloc. In the first nine months of 2008, Israeli exports to Canada went up 45%. A new deal with the EU is set to double Israel's exports of processed food. And in December European ministers "upgraded" the EU-Israel association agreement, a reward long sought by Jerusalem.

A boycott

thank you for reading my story and commenting on it. Your comment proves my point once again- countries who do not of any terrorist threat to Israel are not being attacked by it. The only aggression shown is to countries from the territories of which every now and then couple of Katushas are launched from targeting Israeli cities. I hope you understand that those are no fire works friendship gestures. And again- I do not approve of innocent people being killed but i do believe that we have seen every other country react .in a similar manner when attacked.

Killing anyone is wrong, killing children is worse

And deliberately putting women and children in harm's way is exceedingly criminal.

agreed, but bombing women and child with phosphorus bombs is also exceedingly criminal...
