Boyle, Fein charge Sri Lanka of Genocide in Chennai seminar

Francis Boyle, Professor of International Law at the University of Illinois College of Law, and Bruce Fein, a Washington D.C. Attorney, speaking at a seminar in Chennai organized by the International Tamil Center Monday, reiterated charges of Genocide against the Sri Lanka Government alleging massacre of more than 50,000 Tamil civilians, sources attending the event said. While Prof. Boyle urged India to file charges in International Court against Sri Lanka for violating Geneva conventions, and to stop Colombo "to cease and desist from all acts of genocide against Tamils," Fein stressed the urgent need for the Tamils to reach a "consensus on their political aspirations."

In his introduction, Professor Boyle stressed that the Tamils in Sri Lanka has the right to self determination under international laws.

There are two basic points I want to make: First, the Tamils living on Sri Lanka have been the victims of genocide. Second, the Tamils living on Sri Lanka have the right to self-determination under international law and practice, including the right to establish their own independent state if they so desire. And the fact that the Tamils living on Sri Lanka have been victims of genocide only strengthens and reinforces their right to self-determination, including establishing their own independent State if that is their desire.

"Bruce Fein, left, and Francis Boyle, right, charged ....."

The absence of another dignitary of this modern 'Holy trinity" is surprising.

I was wondering when these legal leeches will saunter in to get a pieceof the pie. With the demise of the coward VP, there are no more terrorists to supportin Sri Lanka.

As such, all the funds squeezed out of the Tamil Diaspora, mainly under threat and duress, there is 'blood money for jam'for these leeches.

Look at their eyes! they sparkle with greed for the prospect of easy money.

Like taking candy from a (terrorist) baby, eh!

Well, I find it difficult to disagree with your sentiments on lawyers but their exhorbitant fees are no excuse for flouting International Law, Geneva Conventions, Human Rights Acts, all without an iota of remorse which makes me question the real will of the GoSL for a lasting peace.

There is no reconcilliation, no empathy and ceratinly no morality in the treatment of Tamils during and post conflict. The genocide is continuing by preventing INGOs access whom are able to establish a suitable infrstructure for the illegally detained IDPs.

The GoSL is in contravention of the Geneva Convention to which it is a signatory so I would sugest that it is too premature to dismiss the lawyers right now.

The GoSL has a policy of targeting medics who treat or aid the treatment of casualties of war. Even enemy combatants have a right to proper medical care. Sri Lanka has ratified this Convention at Geneva.

This is condemning people to die unneccessarily, but certainly slowly and painfully from infected wounds, illness and starvation.

I see that the UNP opposition party has been barred from visiting IDP camps. No Sri Lankan can cry when tourists fail to visit their island 'paradise' or fail to buy their exports because thy fear they are tainted with blood. The GoSL appears to have a lot to hide in this War without Witness.

I see that hey are not allowing INGOs into camps, they are illegally preventing free movement of Internally Displaced (Detained?) People so not allowing people out, not even allowing the UNP in BUT they are going to be allowing BALLOT BOXES in. So tell me, how are the UNP or other political parties going to canvass their constituents?

Only the SLFP has the access to do this. This is not even a Mickey Mouse democracy, this is a proper Banana Republic.
