BP sets up $20 Billion Dollar Oil Spill smokescreen
The Toronto Star cheers BP’s announcement to “set aside $20 billion to cover oil-spill-related settlement claims gives us some visibility as to how the company plans to meet a portion of the billions of dollars of near-term costs related to the spill.”
In the U.S., Business Week reports that The British-based oil company agreed on 16 June 2010 to “Obama’s request to establish a fund to pay damages from the spill, and to temporarily suspend dividends as Gulf residents and businesses begin filing claims.”
The corporate media which is by the way, owned by the same interests that eagerly bankrolled and cheered Barack Obama’s campaign have sought to declare this announcement as some kind of great victory for Gulf coast small business communities, and the American people. Oh really?
