A nation united in silence as Britain reflects on Armistice day and Remembrance Sunday, tributes to the war dead begun around the world as people observed two minutes' silence to mark both Armistice Day last Friday and Remembrance Sunday.

Offices and schools in Britain fell quiet and people stopped in the streets at 11 o'clock this morning to remember those who have died in global conflicts.
