Britain welcomes sri lanka govt. decsion on IDPs
The British Government has said Sri Lanka’s decision to grant freedom of movement to the Internally Displaced People in welfare villages in Vavuniya was a major relief measure. International Development Minister Mike Foster was responding to reports to the Government’s decision to open the villages on 1st December, said granting freedom to decide their own future will be a major relief for the displaced.
Foster said the UK will continue to support the clearance of landmines so people can return home safely and give them the chance to restart their lives.
He also said they will provide additional transport, shelter, clean water and sanitation for the people returning home through a new one million Pounds Sterling grant to the International Organisation of Migration, and will look to offer more support to other agencies.
