Many British Columbians are asking themselves, what the hell was a repeat rapist and murderer allowed in Minimum Security Prison given his long record of offences?  Only in British Columbia you say? Par for the Course!

If Police are in need of help in finding this Rapist, they need look no further that Merritt, where a local Tracker and his Dog last week captured the accused killer of three children.  Mr. Robinson, an area Tracker did in a day or two what the RCMP with all the technology and resources in the latest crime fighting tools at their disposal could not do in 10 days.

METRO VANCOUVER - A 60-year-old convicted killer and rapist who was serving a life sentence has escaped from Ferndale minimum-security prison in Mission.

Blane MacDougal was convicted several times between 1969 and 1989 for offences of rape, kidnapping, unlawful confinement, indecent assault of a female, sexual assault with a weapon, and murder.

He was reported missing from prison today, April 19, after the morning inmate count, according to a spokesperson with Correctional Services Canada.

MacDougal's first crimes occurred sometime before 1968 when, as a 20-year-old, he escaped from either the Prince Albert Correctional Centre or the Regina Correctional Institute (the records are unclear) in Saskatchewan.

He then made his way to Texas, where he was convicted on May 16, 1969 for robbery and "non-capital" murder.

MacDougal served time in the U.S. and was eventually returned to Canada, where he was convicted in 1979 for the 1968 escape.

On February 29, 1980 (a leap year), MacDougal was convicted in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan for indecent assault and rape of a woman.

On September 21, 1989, MacDougal was convicted in Abbostford B.C. for an attack he perpetrated on March 30 of that year.

The charges that stuck were kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and sexual assault with a weapon.

In 1991, MacDougal was given a dangerous offender designation in B.C.MacDougal is white, six feet tall, has brown eyes and brown balding hair and weighs approximately 165 lbs (74 kg). He also has a dragon tattoo on his chest. He would be wearing regular street clothes, but no description of what those might be is available.Any one with information on his whereabouts are asked to call their local police department.

Ferndale is a 166-bed minimum-security federal institution, located at 33737 Dewdney Trunk Rd, Mission, B.C.
