British Embassy Officials Will Stand Trial in Iran

Local staffers for the British embassy in Iran are facing charges of inciting riots and will stand trial soon. The trial news comes a week after Iran released seven of nine staffers from detention.

Iran claims the staffers were present at the riots and while under arrest, had 'made confessions'. The UK foreign office denied that embassy staff took any part in demonstrations.

The surprise move by the Guardian Council will plunge relations between London and the Iranian regime to a new low after the two countries engaged in tit-for-tat diplomatic expulsions last week.

Downing Street said the Government was concerned and seeking urgent clarification from the Iranian regime today.

This is not getting any better at all.

Should the Iranians carry out this threat against British or any other Embassy staff. Then all countries that have an Iranian Embassy should force them to close their embassy and quit those countries.

The U.K. however, should take this step immediately after the Iranian government (for want of a better expression), have shown their intentions as to how they deal with the British Embassy staff. Our counter measures should more than match those of the Iranians as, we all know, Appeasement does NOT work.

Come on Brown, show some spine and get this sorted out now and, less of your double talk and political jargon. Fail in this and, you are surely on your way out of No. 10.
