British police make major cocaine seizure

British police said on Sunday they had made one of the country`s biggest cocaine seizures, netting drugs with a street value of 15 million pounds ($30 million) and arresting seven men.

Some 140 kgs (310 lbs) of cocaine were found after police stopped and searched two vehicles at an unidentified British port on Saturday, police in Cumbria, northwest England, said.

"This is one of the biggest mainland seizures ever seen in the UK," a police statement said. "This is a major breakthrough in the fight against the illegal trafficking of cocaine."

The police said their investigation was continuing and a number of private and business addresses throughout Britain were being searched. end
