A 24-year-old British woman, from Kent and has not been named, slipped on a patch of black ice while scaling the 13,000 foot Tour Rond peak near Chamoix, has died in a climbing accident in the French Alps. She fell 1,000 feet and died of multiple injuries.

A fellow climber, a 26-year-old French male, also slipped and fell 600 foot, and has been left with leg injuries.

The spokesperson said: "They both lost their footing after encountering a patch of black ice at around 1,000ft altitude.

"Black ice is almost invisible to the human eye, and one of the major hazards for climbers in springtime.

"The British woman died of multiple injuries in her fall. The French man survived by seriously injured both legs."

The strange thing is that the tragedy coincides just days after five French climbers died in an avalanche in the Italian Alps.

And last week, British graduate Emily Jordan, 21, died in a riverboating accident while holidaying in New Zealand.

Any idea which part of Kent she came from. The local newspaper may have a 'tribute' site.
