Broward county is the sixth largest school district in the USA. About 257,000 students go to school in the Broward County School District.

The Pembroke Pines Police Department said it received a possible threat Wednesday morning in reference to schools within the city of Pembroke Pines.Authorities said an e-mail was also sent saying "something big was going to happen" around government buildings in Broward County.

The threat was relayed to police by a local radio station.

Apparently, a female caller indicated that her husband was going to start shooting at a school in Pembroke Pines. Then police received a subsequent email with a more general threat to Broward County. The phone call and the email triggered the general lockdown of schools in Broward County.
