The international community has continued to show support to Viet Nam’s World Heritage site of Ha Long.

During a promotional event in Ha Long City on Sunday, Brunei Ambassador to Viet Nam Dato Mahadi Wasli said he was confident that Ha Long Bay will keep topping the new wonders of the world voting.

Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been leading votes on the website www.new7wonders.com in the past two weeks. Viet Nam’s Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha-Ke Bang grotto and Fansipan mountain are competing with more than 200 candidates to be included in the contest.

India, Viet Nam to top destination lists for German travellers by 2015

India and Viet Nam are expected to top the list of popular destinations for outbound German travellers by 2015, according to a study by Tourism Intelligence International (TII).

The rising popularity of the new destinations will be part of a major shift in German travel as the country’s population levels stagnate.

This will lead to virtually zero growth in the volume of travellers but will create significant changes in where and how Germans travel, as well as in their booking patterns.

"As destinations can expect more competition for a share of a pie that will no longer be growing, marketers will have to look beyond the numbers," said TII Managing Director Dr Auliana Poon.

The HCM City-based VietAdventure Co., the event’s organiser, said some 100 local and foreign athletes had registered for the triathlon, the first event of this type in the region.

New York Times writer wants to sample the local snake wine

In an article in the New York Times on March 9, writer Neil Samson Katz said unlike other visitors who came to Viet Nam for food or the beaches, he and his wife were visiting to taste traditional drinks, including snake wine.

Katz went to Viet Nam’s northern provinces in January, sampling homemade rice wine in the Sa Pa area. During his stay there, Katz and his wife witnessed the way local people made traditional wines from rice and maize.

Katz found that many Vietnamese have kept their habit of sipping various wines distilled with herbal blends.
